Sink gurgling when washing machine on

Hi all, i'm hoping someone on here can save me a few hours of investigation work!

For the last week or so whenever my washing machine is on there is a loud gurgling noise coming up through my sink plug hole. Is this likely to juat be a blockage in the drain system ? An airlock? It only seems to happen when the washing machine is on and not when water is draining from sink. I'm a spark to trade and as you can probably tell I know absolutely nothing about plumbing so I'm hoping someone can point me in the right direction before I start ripping pipework apart!

Can you give us a pic of the under sink drain arrangement, do you think?
