Sink pipe

Hi,

Sorry, another bathroom related post from me.....

I have removed a pedestal sink and we have bought a floating 2 drawer unit so I need to reroute some waste pipes for the sink. I have cut the tiles away but where the pipe goes at the bottom there isn’t enough room to fit a 3 way 40mm splitter with a 32mm converter and a 90 degree elbow. Are there any other products that will help me out here please?

I'd try one of these:

And then put your reducer after it - or before it, depending on your viewpoint, in other words closer to your sink than the pipework in the picture.

The conversion bends tend to be a little longer than necessary so you can usually cut them a bit shorter if you're still struggling for space.

Failing that, if you replace the 90° with a 135° and then mount your tee at 45 degrees rather than horizontal, that will get you a little more space. That'd probably also give you a slightly better flow than either your current solution or my suggestion above.

Sorry didn’t see the replies and just had a trip to B&Q and got a flexible 32mm waste which in theory will work but the 3 way push fit adapter won’t fit the old pipe work as it’s 41mm instead of 40mm.... doh.

41mm push fit, 43mm solvent weld. So your push fit should fit. If it’s solvent weld, you’re probably better with a compression tee.

Throw away that push fit fitting for a start, it won't fit solvent weld ABS. You need either a McAlpine compression tee or a solvent weld swept tee with a reducer, different 32mm pipe and some glue if you're using .

You also need to cut that pipe in such a way that it allows you to fit a tee in but still leave enough to fit properly, that all depends on how much movement there is in the pipework. It's not as easy as it looks, is it?

Hi, so I need a 3 way compression fitting with 2 40mm connections and a 32mm connection, do these exist?

You won't get it in a compression fitting but all you need is a little 40mm pipe and a 40mm to 32mm straight reducer and reduce the pipe from the basin from 32mm to 40mm then 40mm into the swept tee.

All sorted thanks, got a 3 way compression and a reducer connected to a flexible pipe, now to fit the sink. Don’t go anywhere folks, I may need you again.

how tight do you have to do these compression fittings?

Usually hand tight is enough, maybe a nip up with grips, it’s not under any pressure so usually ok.

What make are the fittings? If they're McAlpine, then hand tight as suggested, any other make then really hand tight

Got them from my local hardware shop, they look good quality. Thrown the packaging now but they was flosomething or other

Go easy please, it’s my first attempt lol.

Will the bath be ok with 1 bracket on the shower edge? I couldn’t run a battern that side as it was mega tight fitting but the other 2 edges have batterns along and it’s silicon’d in too (not the top edge yet).
