Site box for garage

Seems like a lot of money to drop on a storage box. Would it not be more sensible and cost effective to secure your garage itself ? A multilock door would not cost more than £600 fitted and a garage defender such as this would bolster security

Let's see what others suggest

I have two of these larger ones and three smaller ones and I think they're pretty reliable. I don't rate the cheaper van vaults as much tho

Its the biggest one they do. In toolmart it's £800. My tools cost £2000 and I will be adding to that. This big one weighs £150 kg so difficult to walk off with. The garage door has two bolts either side. I heard thieves will get in if they want to. They would have to be quiet though where I live

Got these

Are these as safe?

They're only as safe as your garage door is, in terms of backing a tipper into it, not safe at all.

Really if it's not too hot it's not too heavy. You have to make it as difficult as possible to the point it becomes very unattractive for thieves.

That's too noisey where I live. They'd have jimmy the door open somehow or get in quietly. I guess have vault attached to a wall with metal chain

Nothings too noisy for a thief.
Well if people hear it and they live 15 metres away they'll call the police.

Regarding the box you bought. It looks big and heavy so hope it doesn't get in the way in garage which already has too much stuff in it. I guess weighing 159kg, won't need to lock it to the wall or floor.

And? You don't think they'll turn up in time, if at all do you?

It's not worth approaching and confronting them either.

As for locking the box down or to a wall I don't tend to bother but I do back my van up to my garage doors so they'd have to move the van first and if they were to do that they'd probably just have the van.

Is the weight of the big ones heavy enough to stop them carrying it away? I gotta move it as well mind

My bigger one takes me and my old man to get it on our trailer empty. You'd need a high top transit to get it in a van so not inconspicuous.

If you need to move it yourself get a 2 ton jack to go with it and a bogey, jack it up, slide the bogey under and wheel to where you want it, jack it again and take it out.

Maybe slightly smaller one and a chain to wall not bolted to floor then.
