Size of this cable, and suitability for cooker.

the cable in the picture looks like it probably is 6 mm t+e. can't you compare it with a known 6 mm cable?

places like B&Queue still sell it by the metre, don't they? sure you can smuggle out an inch long piece.
 
never seen 7 strand 2.5mm myself...

where did you manage to get 34A from?
45A - 10A = 35A
35A x 0.3 = 10.5A...
so 10A + %30 of remainder ( 10.5A ) = 20.5A in my books?...
+another 5A if your switch has a socket..
I too was confused by the figures and agree with 20.5A. However I was taught to use 10A + 30% of max = 23.5A to give a little better margin.

In 1996 we used to buy 1000m drums of stranded 2.5mm T&E from Batt cables for nightclub loudspeakers. If we were lucky they had twin which is used for light festoons. Being stranded it has better high frequency characteristics. Dunno if its still available though.
