With the latest sky boxes is there still a requirement for a phone line when they have wifi?

No, that requirement was dropped years ago.

Even before officially dropped you needed it to have it set up, but once set up you could disconnect it, it was only used to buy movies, the idea was with the Sky box you don't pay for film until you watch it, so if you recorded the film then it was over recorded before you got around to watching then you did not pay, this needed a phone line connection to work.

That was not true. Sky would sometimes checks and if your line was disconnected a letter would follow. The ultimate sanction was a separate bill for each receiver on multihomes setups.

But it is all history now.
