Hi, I am thinking of using slate floor tiles as a splashback in my kitchen. Any suggestions as to how I should seal them (if its necessary) and is this a silly idea in the first place. Cheers

Hi Simonh

We were going to have a slate splash back, but in the end opted for stainless steel.

slate is quite pourus and many tile companies wouldn't recommend it anywhere near a sink!
Although with a few coats of a good sealer, it will be water resistant enough... after all I've seen people with slate tiled showers before!

Would that be the same porous slate that covers the roofs on 50% of British homes then ?

and the same slate that was used as a damp proof course in houses for hundreds of years?
