We have a sleeper planter that has been built directly against a garage wall. It was built recently by someone who was doing our garden and is higher than the damp proof course. It is 4 sided so the sleepers are against the wall but there is no protective barrier between the wall and the sleepers. We’re worried about damp on the garage wall and so we are considering rather than filling with soil, just filling with hardcore and decorative stones on the top and placing plant pots on there which we can move when watering. Would this help prevent damp? Is it mainly having soil in there that would cause the problems?
