Hello

So, I currently have a B&Q store brand Mac Allister compound mitre saw.

I think I may have one of the smallest workshops in the country, being 2ft 6” deep, 6ft 6” height and 5ft 9” wide.

I have an issue with space and always wanted a sliding mitre with a laser, but found the extra space needed behind it an issue. I know you can get mitre saws that “slide” example BOSCH EXPERT EXCM341-305GD

While I was looking online to see if anyone else sells anything like this I came across what I think is called a fixed rail mitre saw.

I have found a few on amazon, but the only issue is I would prefer or require a double bevel.

My wish list of the mitre saw

Laser guide
Double bevel
210-305mm blade
Fixed rail sliding

Not required, but would be nice.

Trench or depth stop
Zero clearance plate

Saws I have found are

Hyundai HYMS2000E - single bevel only
Excel EMS5156 - single bevel only
Excel 17992/17993 seem to have double bevels.

Yeah, so if you know of a fixed rail mitre saw with 210mm - 305mm blade size that fits my needs could you let me know.

Thank you

whats the budget , have you looked at dewalt and would you be OK with a shadow line rather than a laser
I have 250mm dewalt , which goes back against a wall in the garage when i have it out no rails at the back and ideal fo setting up close the the wall
its not double bevel - but some are - just depends on what you want to spen

its not really going to work in your workshop as any sliding saw will need about 2.5 to 3.5 times the blade size to function plus your body in front perhaps another 18 inch give or take with elbow movement so the 30" is a non starter iff you turn the saw round 90% then length is a non starter as ideally you need each end at least 6ft to allow a 6ft cut but with hanging out the door can allow much longer cuts with the last up to 6ft cut off a say 16ft 4.8m length
with your 5ft9 with the saw living just inside the door and the table bed perhaps 30" you will have a perhaps 4ft to 4ft 3 inches beyond the position off the blade to the back wall

I have an Evolution 10inch. Bought in a blinding rush when old Wickes own died mid job, but very pleased with it.

Was about £200 from B&Q and as I already had a matching circular saw I was confident of the quality. Has laser but I don't tend to use and is single bevel (soft start took a bit of getting used to after the old one). Pretty much dead on accurate straight out if the box.

There is no budget set. Just putting aside money for one, and if it takes me a year then it takes me a year. I just want to know my options, keep an eye on price drops and increases so I don’t buy it then a few weeks later it’s 30% less then what I paid.

I can also spend this time doing research, compare specs, find out if there are spare parts, replace any parts with better quality etc.

The way I built my workshop was with the knowledge that space is a problem, I have built it on the car hardstand at the back of the house, and is movable If I need to, would just need to unbolt it here and there.

There is no door on the side, it kind of looks like a bike shed, just taller. The header is very strong as I was going to have the doors on a rail so they could easily come off. The doors I went with are more like barn doors, the big classic American red door type. These are on hinges, and can easily remove the doors so I can clean the workshop area of sawdust for example. I then have access so 5.2m x 3.65m of the hard stand where I can then remove the mitre saw and install it on a “workbench” it’s a metal height and length adjustable scaffold frame with a wooden top for cutting anything bigger that my “indoor workshop” is too small for. While I am still looking for 2 height adjustable roller stands for support also. All other jobs will be done inside the workshop shed, requiring little or no dead space that would be caused by a regular sliding mitre saw.

I hope this helps, so you can advise me on my method of doing this. I can never find what I am looking for when searching online, I think I give it too much information or it only shows a few of the keywords as relatable showing the same thing, or something completely different but slightly related example is I searched for a fixed rail mitre saw, 255mm double bevel, and I get results from building new railway lines, tragic deaths on rail lines.

try using as a search

slidinh mitre saw ixed rail mitre saw double bevel

Leave the 255mm out as there are also 250mm , 255mm and 305mm size blades , and more

Then you can maybe short list from there

I have a DWS778 - but its not double bezel, does not have trench , and uses Shadow line and not laser

please please do your research
use scale square paper or other media to work out how things work

you need the working space for the saw movement and the safe working area where the body is comfortable and whilst holding the handle and on/off switch in front off the blade where your are not in any way cramped and being forced close to the working area

the closed size off the saw [minimum back to front size ]will be far less than the operating width back to front by perhaps 12 to 14 "
in other words please look at actual saws in real situations and in use rather than quoted size

virtually all mentioned saws suggested above will fully occupy your 30" in your shed with no actual body space for use
