you also need to keep in mind that the 35mm you want to remove including the door lining/frame may just be whats supporting the wall above so a further can off worms you need to check
 
As you are not worried about mess etc, why not chip the plaster off, where the lintel is and report back with more photos?
 
Ended up finding another very similar door that's more suited to the doorway. Less hassle since we can keep the existing width and just remove the liners.
