Hey,
I'm hoping to pave my yard - first time doing it. Have a drainage question which is similar to others' recent posts but would really appreciate some opinions on my specific situation.
My yard is roughly 5x5m (ignoring the side return part which i will leave untouched). At the back of the house is a channel drain. At the far end of the yard is the side of another house. The side walls are just garden walls, no houses on the other side. I'm planning on digging down and having beds (not raised) against these side walls.
It's usual to try to slope paving slabs away from the house but if I do that I worry I would cause damp to my neighbours house, at the end of my yard, if water pools there.
My options seem to be:
- slope it towards my own house, into the channel drain, and hope the drainage is adequate
- create a kind of apex in the centre of the yard, sloping to either side which will hopefully allow drainage into soil of the beds. Since its a small space I think it would only need to fall by around an inch and so hopefully wouldn't feel like there's a noticeable lump in the centre.
Thanks for your thoughts! Pics attached.
