We have had a new 3 piece bathroom suite installed. The hot, cold and cistern water flow was good before the new suite was installed. After the new suite was installed all flows of water both hot and cold are very slow to each piece of the suite (including the WC). My plumber said the wash hand basin and bath are low and this was causing the poor flow but the heights have not changed. The cold water supply is gravity fed and the hot water supply comes from a copper hot water cylinder. Any ideas?

the second funniest professional opinion of the day - and thankfully the safest.

Tell your plumber that gravity is not reversed in your house.

Then tell him to take the cheap and nasty flexible connectors off the feeds to your appliances and plumb them properly.

Also, if he is that stupid, he might have twisted them internally as he tightened them.

fook me they're all at it today

Is your water system gravity, ie. hw cylinder and roof tanks?

Maybe the taps, especially if quarter turn mixers are unsuitable. Has the low pressure insert in the cistern's fill valve been used. Other things that can restrict gravty fed are isolation valves and flexi tap connectors with narrow bores.

First, you need to check if all stop taps, inside and out are fully open. Also check the iso. valves under the basin/bath/cistern are fully on.

Thanks to all. This is a flat that we rent out so I will not be there for a while but there are a couple of useful suggestions that I can try out. I think the most probable is the flexible hose suggestion. I'll let you know.

An update on the position. We've had another plumber come in to look at the system and he says that the slow running water is due to single taps being replaced by mixer taps. His suggestion is to add a pump to the hot water supply and the rising main to the cold water supply. Do you think this is the solution and why is the cistern slow to fill up as this does not have anything to do with the mixer taps?

Just another update. It seems the taps are unsuitable for a gravity fed system. We changed the taps over and that helped the situation. Thanks to all for your comments.
