Hi, we are going to tile two small external areas up to our front door with Victorian tiles.
We are going to dig out, put some hardcore in, followed by about 4 inch deep concrete (will add some micro fibres to the mix). Let it dry out for a few weeks, and then tile upon a decoupling membrane like durabase.
The areas are about 0.8m2 each, but they border brick walls and some steps/thresholds in yorkstone/gritstone. What I’m unsure about is if I need to put some expansion material, like fillcrete’s expansion roll, around the perimeter. I’m wary of the concrete cracking and messing up the tiles. Or since it is such a small area, is the concrete ok up against the brick and stone?
