Smallest stud depth for aqua panel

All the walls bar one of our bathroom are stud walls. Typically the wall that is block work is the wall I want to install aqua panels (as that's where the bath / shower will be).

My question is what is the min depth the studs can be to install aqua panels? I know they recommend building up the studs using 2"x4"s but room depth is a little tight so could you use slightly small depth batons on the block work (like 1" square or even 2"x3"s)?

Many thanks

You could dot and dab your aqua panels on to save space. But you'd have to back up the adhesive with mechanical fixings after it had set, such as hammer fixings.
