Hi,

I have an extractor fan which doesn't seem to extract properly, when boiling water the room fills up with steam and only a small amount seems to be evacuated by the fan.

Filter has been cleaned (there is no carbon filter as it vents outside). I can also see that the motor works fine - the fan wheel goes round without a problem.

Trouble is the motor casing was caked in grease, which was cleaned off. (Maybe the previous owners hadn't cleaned the filters...). As I say, this doesn't appear to have affected the functioning of the motor.

I was just wondering whether anyone knew anything about these extractors and what might be the problem with it.

(The model is Smeg KSEV 90X, which supposedly has an extraction rate of 850 cubic metres per hour).

Any opinions or advice would be greatly appreciated!

If it is a chimney type extractor then the flexi pipe that is probably connected between the fan exhaust & the outside vent may have become detached. Remove the chimney cover to gain access to the top of the extractor & the hose. Also check the outside vent isn't jammed shut or blocked up.
