Hi, we have a smeg oven (double electric oven with gas hobs) -- see picture. It's diagonally across the corner of the kitchen, and behind it it a cavity (formed by a ply "wall" across the corner of the room). This cavity is effectively sealed, except that there is a small hole in the top of it (the ceiling) opening into the space beneath the first floor floorboards. it appears that when the fan oven is on, hot air is being vented into the cavity. Is that right? If the oven vents out the back, does the cavity need to be properly vented to the outside?

So the hob extractor is being vented in to the wall cavity?
That is not very good, the options if can used are via re-circulation without venting externally or directly outside or all the fumes, moisture and grease are going to be trapped within cavity.

No, the extractor is vented to the outside (through a pipe through the cavity). From above all I can tell is that hot air (thick with cooking smells) is coming up through the cavity -- I can't get down to see where from. Does the oven vent out the back?
