Any ideas? We have suddenly developed a smell in our kitchen. It smells like sick and that smell that a really strong parmesan cheese has!
It is driving us mad as we cannot locate a specific place it is coming from. It is just in the air but cannot work out where it is coming from. It is not anywhere else other than the kitchen.

PLEASE HELP!!!! :?:

Have you recently lowered the temperature your washing machine works at?

If it is not coming from drains or waste traps it could be electrical. When plastic fittings overheat (and possibly age) they can give off an offensive odour - usually described as a "fishy smell". Is the smell worse in the evening when lights are on?

Check out your light fittings and electrical sockets for signs of overheating.

rotten food anywhere?pull off the plinths and have a closer look round,is it a musty smell?could be dry rot???

We haven't changed the washing machine settings at all.
The smell is not really a fishy one so I don't believe it to be electrical.
We have removed the plinths under the kitchen units and could not locate the smell.
I cannot work it out because it is not coming from a specific part of the kitchen. It is really becoming annoying now!!

maybe someone dropped some milk and it has gone under the floor or behind a cabinet.

Also:
Fridges have a dish over the motor where defrost water drips and evaporates away.

If food or drink is against the chillling panel at the back, or spilt in the fridge, it can contaminate the defrost water. Pull out your fridge and look at the dish. it may need cleaning out.

If you push raw meat to the back of the fridge, blood can get into the defrost water.

The cheesy sicky lactone smell is rancid milk. Somebody has spilled milk in the fridge and it has drained down into the evaporation tray at the back, where convection is carrying the smell around the kitchen. Either that or somebody has spilled milk under a unit or on the floor - is it partly carpeted?
