I have managed to hit (and damage) two out of three on a job. Water and gas.

We knew the water was there and that the stop tap was working and that the pipe would be sacrificial over digging the trench out. It was a simple (temporary) repair.

The gas was a surprise and was a few inches directly below the water. The service followed a distinct line from source to the meter than did an inexplicable loop right where I caught it. I know a man who fixes them though and it was just a case of crimping it over until he came.

Pulled on plenty of leccy cables but never damaged one. My old mate did a big BT cluster of wires once.

I once took out the telephones of about 4 houses.
I really loved that mk1 Golf GTI.

I've been lucky, only ever dug up Cable & Wireless.
