Teachers’ salaries in England have dropped by more than a tenth in the last decade while their earnings have risen in comparable countries, according to an influential international study.

The survey by the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) shows that teachers’ salaries in England were worth 12% less in 2015 than in 2005 and 6% less in Scotland.

One of the problems is that the teachers are not supported by their overlords, results at any cost (usually mental) so they quit. Teaching is a bit like nursing, it's a job you do for the satisfaction of helping, not necessarily for reward.

Overlords? You mean the Government or Academy heads?

So you are saying people take up these posts not for financial reward so why did the Government using a system of financial incentives for Academies under Gove?

You really are a dullard knobrot. Education is result driven, get good ofsted results then the head teachers (overlords) get more money. If you work anywhere, unless it's community payback, you do it for the money. If you want more money you get a better paid job. If you are not that fussed about high wages but work because you enjoy it & like the feeling of satisfaction you get from helping others, then you might become a teacher or nurse (or similar)

As any tory will tell you, high paid people work better when they earn lots of money. High pay motivates them to do their job. That's why company bosses, head teachers and MPs are well paid.

However, poor people work better when they earn very little money, and have no job security. That's why nurses and TAs receive very little. Low paid people do their best when they are motivated solely by a love of their job and a desire to serve.

Someone in a bed close to yours will have been taught by one - in a school. Get your carer to explain.

Thank you for proving you know nothing. Gove policy was to encourage schools to become Academies through cash inducements.

Schools are not funded by results.

Results driven education just likes results driven health - Goodharts law applies.

Must be so easy for political parities to fool you.
