I am looking to install a 13amp socket in my loft and understand that it would not be possible to use the lighting circuit for this. However, there is also a cable running through the loft to power an electric shower and I would be grateful if anyone could confirm that it would be ok to use this with the appropriate junction box ?.

There could be a way around this. Perhaps use the lighting circuit and use a 5a point, then change the plug top to a round pin plug.
Or,
Use a labelled fused connection unit with 3a fuse, and socket taken from that.

As far as i am aware this is within regs as it is labelled and fused down.

Yeah it's ok to do it like that, and quite common for powering TV boosters and the like.

It is not really a good idea to do this if the socket is intended to power a standard appliance though.
