I have a farm type wide gate which has some evidence of the bottom of the top rail softening a little. Is there a good product for hardening this bit up before I re-coat please. For the finish I have previously used dark brown fence treatment which appears to do little else but colour it ?

replace the top rail it will soon fall apart
