soil pipe

am having old cottage renovated the original bathroom is downstairs. The soil pipe for the toilet is directly under it going straight down into the ground. All the new toilets seem to have the waste going out the back of the toilet pan . I know nothing about plumbing but i wonder will this cause a problem and will the soil pipe have to be moved. Any help would be much appreciated

some toilets did have a vertical soile pipe connection, try and get a new pan with same, or move toilet frowrd, wasier than digging out existing. i have aslo seen side exit pans

This will not be a problem just use a bent pan connector

Agreeing with Silverback , the 90 Degree Space Saver Bend is what you might need , like the one at the bottom of this link.......
