SOLDERING COPPER PIPES

hello all

i see so many people soldering copper pipes in different ways some people put flux on the pipe only and some people put flux on the pipe and fitting my question is what is the best method?

on the pipe, clean the inside of the fitting with a brillo pad type thing, sorted

Only flux the pipe. if you flux the female, excess flux will be pushed into pipework.

A quick rub with steel wool or a cleaning pad on the end of the pipe and in the socket end of the fitting, a wipe over the end of the pipe with the flux, insert pipe into fitting, apply heat.

It clearly states on the flux tub where it's to be applied. If you use SELF CLEANING FLUX why use steel wool or anything else??!!

Self cleaning flux is excellent, but cleaning the pipes/fittings as well.........Old habits die hard.
