Sorry to go against the flow, but I work for a firm of solicitors, in the conveyancing department of all places. If I may distract you from your hate-fest, i'd like to clear up a few points. Firstly, qualified solicitors themselves have much more important things to do than day-to-day conveyancing, which is just left to normal folk like myself. So, a solicitor is accountable for the work we do, but he doesn't make his £60k a year doing mundane sales and purchases (and it really is mundane).

Secondly, a solicitors firm is well within their rights to insist that the other party have their work done through another solicitor, as there is a mountain of legal work to do, which has to be done properly. Remember that there are contracts, huge sums of money and people's livelihoods on the line so, frankly, there is too much at stake to leave it to any private individual. So whoever said that this request is illegal is wrong and anyone who reports such incidents to the Law Society will look a bit foolish.

I'm sorry some of you have had bad experience with solicitor's firms, but some of them are actually very good and professional (especially mine! ), but you're bound to meet tw@ts in any profession really.

The sellers solicitor refuses to sell unless the purchaser uses solicitor which they did not really want to do. ( jobs for the boys. )

There is surely a big difference between saying "I will not act for both the buyer and the seller" and saying "Your buyer must use my brother/cousin/mate down the road or I will not act for you." You will probably still argue that it is not illegal, but it is hardly ethical. Surely "keeping it in the family" also goes against your own comment..

I can recommend contacting the Office for the Supervision of Solicitors.

We had trouble with our solicitors, they were awful, god knows why they think they can get away with it. They are earning good money for paper shuffling.

Anyway we had several letters of complaint answered by our solicitors just fobing (Spelling?) us off. In the end we contacted the OSS and they were very helpful, in the end they got us 300 quid back of the solicitors. They contacted the solicitors and took our side.

They cause more trouble than they cure...tell me how if two parties are argueing the toss about something...they will each have a solicitor working for them who wil undoubtably claim to be right...while in the meantime collecting a nice earner out of it...

The outcome...well only party can be right but both parties end up paying out a fortune.

They also defend any piece of scum in the name of justice...they know some of the filth they defnd are guilty...but defend them anyway...why?...money, nothing but legal mercinaries.

A boy tried it on with y daughter a couple of years ago...big time...bordered on a serious assault...becasue my daughter had been caught with another lad (she was actually going out with at the time) in college...she was judged to be a tart..(we are talking testoterone charged teenagers here!)......the offending lad was arrested ..the case was a dead cert...until the boys solicitor found out about her pervious indescetion..and we were told he would 'destroy her' in court...tell me what gives him the right to 'destroy' people???.....the police on the advice of the cps (who only ever back a dead cert) advised us to drop it for my daughters sake...

In a way its a good thing it didnt get that far...I would have had him there and then in the courtroom..im sure i wouldnt have been able to stop myself.

No time for people like that whatsoever.

With regards to a house transaction, I would rather pay my few hundred quid to the qualified professional and his secretaries than a few grand to a monkey in a shiny suit.

Yet we still have estate agents...

That is ILLEGAL.

I would suugest a report to the BAR council and the local Police.

Believe it or not the actual refusal to sell is their right, as with any attempt to purchase it is up to the vendor whether they sell to you they are under no obligation to, that said, the buyers are perfectly entitled to do their own conveyancing.

i dont think there are any solicitors out there willing to fight for you because they truly believe in you and they case they are fighting for..its all about the money for them ive been going through a personal case for sum years now and cant find a solicitor with any get up and go in them..hopeless..

I am very SORRY to hear about your daughters troubles .....an yes its easy to sort things by following oik down back alley ...but as we have seen here about charley bronson stuff it just breeds more violence

I hope your daughter is now in a good relationship an moved on from this utter slugs threats ...
this animal has the "RIGHT " to a solicitor, but many DECENT ONES will make the yob/scum admit an take his chances ...which is far less for him sentance wise if fight an lose , the cps were right to get you too drop it , as the scum lawyer would of raped her mentally in the court room ...

its easy to be an observer an give comments but I Genuinely FEEL for you an your family ...
she was right to drop it an move on with her life ..
still must be painful knowing this Educated man helped in the Attack/cover up of your daughter

about 6months ago there was an underground Private bbs ,where a guy called MINER ,would use his place/POWER in the Group to payback those scumbag , he would put requests to a vote after all evidence was given ..an then the person had their ID robbed /or very wrong porn put on these guys/gals Puters ..
I respected/feared those guys but it was justice for those not given it by the courts..
