When using solvent weld to joint waste pipes is it best to put the solvent weld glue on both the fitting and the pipe before joining?

If using bosses and solvent weld do you use the same rubber inserts for the bosses as you do for push-fit waste?

The idea is to just put it on the pipe, that way when you insert the pipe into the fitting, any excess glue will splurge out of the joint.

If you put it inside the fitting and push the pipe in, the excess will splurge inside the pipework, which could create something for hairs and bits to cling onto thus causing a blockage. Probably a very unlikely chance mind you but something to think about
