Solvent weld glue just on the pipe?

Can't argue with that... .unless the jointing area is dirty/greasy then not needed. Never used cleaner either. Just a roughen up if dirty does me.

When done right, the pipe is considered as a single piece once joined due to the fact that the cement melts the plastic and fuses together, it shouldn't ever leak through normal use.

I've never roughened the pipe and yet to have any problems.

I put the bulk of the solvent cement on the pipe, and just a smidgen round the inside of the fitting.

The cleaner's good if you've got any drain lubricant on the pipe.
