Hi

What are your tips on solvent welding.

What are he best glues to use for 4" soil pipe outside?

Is using a cleaner before glueing required?

How much of the glue do you apply (both surfaces).

Any other tips for good glued joints would be helpful.

Many Thanks

Good idea to key the surfaces you are bonding. Wire wool is good for this. Also make sure the solvent weld is not out of date it does have a shelf life!
Use copious amounts of the glue and clean off the excess quickly.

RTFM from the pipe manufacturer, use the cleaner and for soil pipe it's best to use a larger brush than the one that comes with the tin (especially in summer heat where the solvent will go off quicker).

Thanks for the info - one question.

Can you use any pre glue cleaner or is it matched to the actual glue product

Can I use company A cleaner and company B glue or is it better to stick with the same stuff?

Probably ok but best to play safe...I've always used Polypipe cleaner and solvent.

You can dilute the adhesive down with water and use this as a cleaner

I'm fairly sure that the solvent is acetone, which does mix with water. I' ve never heard of diluting the adhesive though.

Dont put the glue inside the fitting, plenty on the male end and twist it a bit when its fully home and as said clean off excess.

Another Tip - Make sure that all mating surfaces are BONE DRY.

Solvent weld won't work, even with small amounts of moisture. Make sure you cover joint well to protect from rain before solvent sets.
