I recently got a gas combi boiler installed and so the cold water storage tank, ch exp tank etc are now redundant. I have removed them and intend to board out most of the roofspace for light storage. However there are a few batens of some sort running perpendicular to and nailed to the top of the ceiling joists. They are at most 2x1/2" and look pretty useless. There are only 3 or 4 over the whole loft with signs of another couple that have been removed, or partially removed. Are these at all important or can i just rip them off to create a flat surface for wider boards. Also would taking a 1" notch out of the top of the joists for pipes be a bad idea?
Cheers, hope that's not too confusing.
