Been asked to sound proof a party wall. Neighbour has occasion trouble with music noise especially heavy bass sounds coming through. The party wall is stone. What options are available to remedy this. Neighbour has spoken to the other party and to a large extent the problem is resolved except when they go out then the son cranks it up.

rob39, hi.

When you say the party wall is stone? not brick, then there is a possibility of the sound travelling at floor level, where the floor joists are allowing the noise to get across the party wall?

Masonry is a really solid material and generally reduces sound transmission?

Any ideas on how the floor is constructed? do the joists meet, or touch?

Or if the sound is being transferred over the roof space? an increase in the party wall in the loft may assist.

Any chance of a couple of answers to the above may assist?

Probably loads of answers, or a walk away from job???

Ken.
