Space to fit a boiler

Hi,

I've just had a quote to fit a new boiler and have the sneaking suspicion that I'm being ripped off.

The guy quoted me for an Ideal Isar HE30, which from reading previous messages I would do well to stay away from, but the quote was around 1500 quid (before VAT) just for the boiler.

The only reason this was the boiler he suggested was that he claimed there was not enough clearance at the front of the boiler to be legal, and this was the thinnest boiler he could think of.

I was wondering if anyone could shed light on what the legal requirements are for clearance at the front of a boiler (I have 770mm available to fit it into, from wall to wall), and whether this is a reasonable pre-VAT price?

That boiler needs 728mm total depth, so would be a reasonable choice. You could check other models - some certainly wouldn't fit.

Perfectly reasonable price. Try BG, and don't be surprised if the quote starts with a 4.

ya Ideal Isar will fit in ya small space but it wont be too long b4 ya want it out again!

personally id spend a bit more on a better boiler n location if needed!

Isar is only 'narrow' if fitted direct to wall. If fitted on a spacing frame to run the pipes behind it then it is no slimmer than any other boiler.

Have a look at the Broag Advanta Plus range. The 35C would probably do for your case.

I dont think there is much wrong with the new gen Icos as long as it goes on to a system you can eat yer dinner off it seems to honk along luvverly
