Dear DIYnot
I live in Spain. I wish to add a separate light and switch from an existing junction box.

About 4 feet above the existing switch is a small junction box. coming into the junction box from the celing is 1 blue wire (neutral) this blue wire is connected to another blue wire which goes to the existing light, 1 grey wire (live) this grey wire goes down into the existing light switch and a brown wire which also comes from existing light switch and connects to the existing light. which all works.

so i connected an extra blue wire to the blue wires already connected together and sent that to the new light. i then split the grey (live) wire and connected one wire back into the old switch and one wire into the new switch. (i have checked and there is power in both cables.) and i then connected a brown wire from my new switch to my new light.

i still can work the old light using the old switch and even though i copied the way the old light was connecting the new light does not work.

can anyone please give me some advice on what i am doing wrong thank you.
photos can be provided if needed thank you
