Split Flue Liner, debris inside Back boiler, cost to fix?

When the works finished, make sure that you have the appliance serviced annually.

Also buy a co detector as its an open flued appliance

Not having a go Namsag, not very much anyway

Just trying to say not every job is a 5min one, and if you abide by the HSE  a £1000 quid may not seems so unreasonable, plus they are doing other work.

The Church in Bath for example took 2 persons all day and it still wasn't down the chimney, ended up with a camera, and several big holes in the breast before the liner was in place.

I got a 9 metre length of 5" for £99 inc vat 3 months ago and they even delivered it for free.

£300

What is the point of talking about a church and time it would take to do that when we are discussing a standard domestic property with 5 inch liner was talking about the job in hand not something completly un related. And HSE adhered to.

Back to original topic Slickster i would want them to prove that the liner is split and they are not using scare tactics or even worse bad training to not know why boiler is sooted up... you have paid your money to them you want them back to prove liner is split.

Thanks for all the comments/discussion!

My, uneducated in this area, thoughts were that the soot had been building up over time and that the few days before it became smelly, it had been pretty windy. I originally was thinking that it 'just' needed servicing/cleaning, so was quite disappointed when it all got turned off rather than them just 'cleaning it'.

I have no idea how he decided if the flue was split, but I think the fact that he wrote down suspected gave indication that he wasn't exactly sure of this himself (also how you would you know unless you take it out (or put a camera up?)).

There is ways of doing it with a smoke bomb. so if you paid for a call out he should have done these test before cutting you off or desooted it first then cut you off if it failed other tests

No so long ago I turned down a copex-replacement job, handed it to someone else, ex BG man.
He got 6ft out of the top , and 6 ft out of the bottom.
Then spent a further day and a half getting the rest out with sweeps brushes and by dropping a sash weight on a rope, down from above.

For some reason he didn't offer me drink for that one.

We used to have a guy around our way early 70`s who used to top and tail back boiler flues 3 feet each end could never understand why he done that, but lucky enough his jobs where easily recogniseable by other rough stuff he done so we knew what to look for.

Slickster i think best thing you can do if BG don`t/won`t come back out is ask mates etc for a good heating guy and then phone him explain exact situation and ask for a desoot with the provision that if it does fail after wards you will pay him with no qualms for work done. But you may struggle this week as people won`t be wanting to get caught up with problem jobs...This is the week for tears as people get upset with no heat over xmas
