Hi

I have some Knightsbridge MD02 R80 Downlights ready to replace some old ones in the Kitchen. However.....the fitting at the top of the new lights does not indicate which is L and which is N. The new lights are double insulated so no need for an earth connection.

What will happen if I get the N and L the wrong way around......will the lights work ?.........if so how can I tell which the correct terminal for N and L is ?

There is the letters VEM on one terminal and a symbol that looks like a ''devils fork'' on the other side.......any ideas folks ?

Thanks.

@ alarm.....just wanted a 2nd opinion mate....not doubting your word. Also felt the other site was probably not for novices (which I am).

@ ban..... Four old downlights being replaced with four new ones in a straight swap.

Normally if the manufacturer does not label the terminals and there is nothing in the instructions to say otherwise then you can connect line and neutral to either.
However, if the lamp has an edison design (scew in type) then the line (brown/red) must go the terminal that connects to the base centre contact while the neutral (blue/black) goes to the side contact.
