Spray Foam loft insulation scammers on the rise

This is the 3rd advert (different suppliers) that I've seen this week.

If anybody is wondering if it is a good idea ... no. Why?

• mortgage companies might refuse to lend
• blocks airflow, can cause wood to rot
• foam can warp timbers
• bloody nightmare to remove it
• it won't keep your house much warmer, as the loft should still be ventilated from the outside

I once spent 2hrs talking a young lad out of having this shoite installed in his first house.

I put him in touch with my semi-tame roofer of choice, who used his free muscle as a labourer & charged him less than £500 to make good, insulate & floor board out his loft.

looks good quick results on the cheap and all the cost and heartache off the bodged job someone else's problem in perhaps 10 years time
keep in mind when your roof need redoing it will add greatly to the cost and a lot off roofers wont go near because off extra hidden damage

Slightly OT but when cavity wall insulation became the in thing, was it not discovered that many applications had been sub-standard and in some cases were causing more damage than good?

With the ongoing green agenda, we'll no doubt hear in years to come of numerous botched insulation jobs.

Yep, especially as it'll all be done on another Government back-hander deal which involves giving tax-payers money to dodgy companies rather than proper trades.

If the government is so keen for everybody to insulate their homes, why don't they just give free insulation to people?

There's ventilation under the tiles so that timber doesn't rot.

But with the foam stuck to three sides of every rafter there is in-adequate ventilation of the timber. Worst case the foam traps moisture in the rafters.
