Spreading Adhesive

I will be laying some 1200 x 230 tiles, should i be spreading the adhesive in direction of the length or would i get better coverage spreading in direction of width, i.e 230 direction?

Fairly immaterial really, but it might depend on the direction you're laying the tiles, and whether you spread side to side, or front to back, but at the end of the day, you'll still have adhesive under the tiles.
