making less mess with the adhesive

Hi,

I had my first experience with tiling today

It goes well so far but I would like to ask the people with more experience - how do you spread the adhesive without making a mess. I did the first row of tiles, cleaned the excess adhesive around and on the tiles, then spread more adhesive for the second row and the first one got messy, so at the end I had to clean it again. Is there any trick of the trade?

If you work quickly you can apply adhesive to a much greater area so that the trowelling on doesn't go anywhere near your tiles. Use a proper notched spreader - not the one you get in the tub.
