i was just wondering if i wanted to add a socket to my ring main i know about just finding a socket that was part of the ring and coming off it with the 2.5 but is that the way you professions do the same? are is there a better safer way to do it
If its possible, extend the ring main, its a far better way to go.
2.5mm cable is rated at 26 amps optimum. On a single run to a double socket, it will encounter no more than 26 amps (2 x 13amp plugs) This is highly unlikely anyway, therefore its perfectly safe to do a spur, and its a recognised method.
However, in years to come when you want more power, you may regret using the spur method, as you want even more sockets and you cannot spur off this spur once again.
yes i would, for reasons Taylortwocities mentioned.
usualy the easiest way is to pull a "leg" of the ring from existing socket, put it into new outlet (FCU, socket etc) and run new 2.5 T & E from here back to where you took the leg from
