We have an outbuilding approx 2 metres away from the main house and would like to install a bathroom there (all under Building Regs). Can we spur our main heating and hot/cold water from the house to this building? How would we go about insulating the pipes as they run in a trench through the garden?

That's an unusual one, usually run cold out in a trench that's at least 750mm deep and then heat etc in the outbuilding.
Depending on how far away it was, If I was doing it though, i'd line the trench bottom and sides in cement and then cut slabs to seal the top then individually insulate each pipe. You would need to have it all done in single pipe with no joins to ensure you're not digging it up later.
