Ssssssshhhhhh, don't mention Reform.

Border force don’t know if they are innocent passage, illegal immigrants or asylum seekers.

To find out they would have to speak to them, at which point the people can say “I claim asylum”, if they speak good English they might even say Please.
you don't think they can tell the difference between a passenger ferry with 30-50 people on board and a home made illegal immigrant boat with a decent pair of binoculars? Maybe someone could invent a small flying camera that could hover over them and relay the footage? I wonder if they might call it a drone.

they are not asylum seekers until they claim asylum
“A key part of the unpublished policy disclosed in the high court judgment is that anyone in a dinghy who indicates they wish to claim asylum in the UK should not be pushed back but instead escorted to UK shores”

correct - if they are in French territory- then the French must take them
If they are rescued in French waters, the French should take them, as long as urgent medical care is not prolonged.

But the refugees still have a right to claim asylum in whichever country they prefer. Just because they've been rescued does not mean they are obliged to seek asylum there.

they have a limited get of jail card for some immigration offences
That's of no concern for them. They're risking their life to cross the channel, a slight risk of prosecution isn't going to make a fat lot of difference.
keeping them from doing that is the idea.
You can't use pushbacks. :rolleyes::rolleyes:

It doesn’t matter what they look like.

You simply can’t determine if a boat is innocent passage or not by how it looks…..unless it happens to have a machine gun mounted on it

“A key part of the unpublished policy disclosed in the high court judgment is that anyone in a dinghy who indicates they wish to claim asylum in the UK should not be pushed back but instead escorted to UK shores”

The ruling reveals the pushback policy states: “Should a migrant request asylum whilst in UK territorial waters they must be returned to the UK for processing.”

According to the high court judgment, a clause in the unpublished policy says “the actual number of migrant vessels successfully intercepted is likely to be extremely low”. It adds that one of the “acceptable outcomes” is that during operational deployments no migrant vessels are assessed as suitable for safe turnaround.

Do feel free to share why a 70ft flat bottom boat, made to a very poor standard overloaded with people is put at greater risk by being gently pushed at the bow, than propelled by the outboard at the stern.

The boats have little stability or reinforcing in the middle. Pressure on both ends simultaneously can easily cause the inflatable to 'fold up' on itself.
Therebye pitching the occupants into the water. I thought you were a seafarer? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Nest time your 'sailing' in your local swimming pool, try it with a flimsy inflatable. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
The vessel has to be steered in order to go north, there is nothing inherently dangerous about it being slowly turned around to go south. Do you think the boat knows which way its heading or was only designed to go North?
The people want to go North, so they'll happily sit quietly while they are forced to go in a different direction? :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
