Stable door rebates

Hi, I want to have an inward opening top half but that would make the rebate on the back. Would this let water be driven in ? Do I put the mortice lock in the top half and join them with a bolt ? What hinge spacings would you recommend...6" from top and bottom each half ?

if you do it that way around you could have problems with the water being driven in. The lock can go where you like with a decent bolt to lock the two doors togetehr. If the door is to be painted i normally brace it with some battens temporarily while hanging it to turn it back into one door . it makes the lining up of the door with the hinges etc a lot easier

you could always do away with the rebate put a door strip on the top half to shed the the water at the bottom its the water running down the door then blowing in thats the the problem
you could also fit a bit of 3by 1inch plained[20+69mm] to the back secured to the top
then slightly slope to the top of the bottom half to shed the water forward or a combination of all 3

an alternative is to rebate a groove in the bottom of the top door on the towards the outside face and use a draught seal insert

I fitted a weather board and seems ok with hose.
