I have cellar stairs that are carpeted on top but open underneath. The stairs bounce everytime someone walks up or down. The stairs are open underneath. Only 2 stringers were used when the house was built. Any ideas of how to reduce the bounce from the stairs without putting in posts to the floor. That area needs to be clear. Can a stringer be added, or maybe box them in underrneath. What will sturdy up the bouncing stairs.

are all the components off the stair firmly affix or are there squeeks from specific treads

pictures would be good or a description of the string length width and depth
is it possible a supporting structure has been moved from underneath!!!
