stair carpet (anti-dog hair)

hi,
can anyone suggest any carpet (for hall,stair,landing) that isn't as bad a cheap cord carpet for collecting dog hair from kids socks!!!
I don't know if any are better than others but thought I'd ask

Put a stair gate on the bottom of the stairs and vacuum twice a day!
