Stair Case exterior touch up

Hello experts,

So we are doing the communal hallway staircase and started to take the pannelling covering the spindles - so far so good when looking from inside the staircase - however, when looking from outside, it will need some touch-up.

What would be your best recommendation, please, so that it looks as best as possible?

If you have the skills to face the exposed area with thin boarding/mdf etc you could then fill and paint which may be easier than trying to sand and fill the area as it is at present?

So, to be clear, the boarding is coming off?
Looks rough on the outside, you could add a strip of timber or primed MDF strip along the edge to cover up the ends of the treads.
