I'm thinking about having my stairs ('50s, typical 3-bed semi single winder, all white painted wood, solid panelling between handrail and string etc) replaced.

Shan't be DIY-ing, this will be bundled in with an extension & new kitchen next year, but I'd like to start looking at styles and designs, and also to get an idea if I can pay for it with the loose change in my driver's door pocket or if I'll have to sell the family into slavery.

Can anyone recommend suppliers with websites where I can start to do some general looking about?

Really depends on what you want; I was looking for a freshen up on a 60’s, totally unsafe ranch style staircase to bring it up to a meaningful safety standards & to prevent the 2 new grandkids doing a nosedive off the landing under the lower ranch in a few months time!

I settled on contemporary spindles, new handrails/base rails & newel posts (repairs); building regs. Seem to rule out much else! I managed this freshen up & safety compliance for just over 100 quid & 1 ½ days work to install it all; but it was a DIY job!

They deal mainly with trade; I found the guy very competitive & the quality of the stuff supplied was 1st class + he will arrange to deliver if you want. They are a bit of an ‘old fashioned’ company though & although the guy is very pleasant & helpful, I did have a couple of problems. They were well sorted without fuss in no time though but just don’t expect modern style customer servic
