Starmer postpones elections even further in Reform areas...

The massive reorganisation’s in Surrey are going to cost a huge amount, lead to confusion and overlap and council tax payers will suffer from poorer services and absolutely no cost savings for years to come

i don't want reform running anything - but I want to live in a democracy where we have elections
You are parroting Reform parties propaganda……so do you care about facts or Reform propaganda

Labours manifesto clearly stated they would develop devolution of local authorities and create more Mayoral authorities to give more power to regions away from central government…….so the people democratically voted for it.

And as a part of that some councils which are combining are asking to delay election for a year, to avoid having an election in 2026 and 2027.

The Labour Party are not cancelling elections, they are doing what local councils are asking for….councils that were voted in to power by citizens.

Farage is challenging it legally. Thankfully someone is standing up for democracy.

If this cancellation goes ahead then expect to see a mass council tax strike in April in all those areas.

Starmer's creating his very own equivalent of Thatcher's Poll Tax, the thing that ended her reign as a result of mass unrest.

I remember back then, my dad was a proper old-fashioned socialist*, he stopped paying. Everyone knew they could stop paying but you only had to hold off until a certain point when you could pay just before they added court fees. It cost nothing to do and caused a cashflow and bureaucracy crisis in all the councils.

* Back when the labour party represented working people, not hairdyed cross-dressers and shouty attention seekers.

You often moan about government inefficiency, some would have thought you would be keen to see a long term permanent benefit.

Or do you think efficiency savings are easily possible without short term costs and disruption

If Conservatives had suggested exact same thing you would very positive

Quite. We had a county election last year, got reform in. Now they're reorganising and combining as stipulated by the government. The election did not get in the way at all. The only downside for the ruling uni-party elite was that the Tories lost control and Reform took over.

The reorganisation will take many years, elections have to carry on - otherwise they'll be delaying by a year every year for a decade.

The public voted for Labours manifesto, Labour are carrying that out so that is democracy.

Farage is attacking democracy

No they won’t because it is the councils that have asked for putting back elections for a year.

Poor Ivor, once again knows nothing about the subject

That shows you have absolutely no idea what you are talking about.

The main reason elections are being delayed is to avoid a council having elections 2 years running…..which would waste tax payers money.

Ivor wants to waste tax payers money

Utter garbage. Their manifesto didn't state they'd cancel elections, especially not just because they or their tory partners didn't want to lose them.

Plus your usual pathetic "Poor (insert name here)" childish nonsense.

Elections for the newly reorganised councils are extremely unlikely to happen in a year. They're still arguing about which bits will belong to who, anything could happen, there isn't a plan.

You are quoting the ruling party's lies.

Plus the usual playground bit on the end that we all expect.

What a revealing question!

You seriously think that cancelling an election to avoid the inevitable consequence of the electorate getting the council of their choice is a valid argument??!?
Labour are not cancelling any elections.

It is the local councils that are making the choice, mostly to avoid wasting tax payers money.

Poor Ivor, knows nothing about the subject, as usual

To be fair to Notch, he is right when he says the decisions on postponing the vote are to be made by the councils.

(Councils who will lose to Reform when the elections are eventually held).
Reform run councils are utterly incompetent so the electorate are rapidly losing faith in the flag waving nincompoops

The people requesting the cancellation are those who will definitely lose their salary, expenses and perks immediately when there's an election.

Obviously turkeys don't vote for christmas given a choice, which is why Labour have given the tories this choice - they know what their answer will be before they ask.

Both labour and tories are unified as a single body in keeping Reform out of power at any cost, against the will of the people.

Keir Hardie must be turning in his grave at what the party he founded has become.
