start up problem

Quite often when vista starts up, it keeps getting stuck on the green bar that moves left to right. I have to shut down manually, then restart. Any idea's on how to solve this.

Event Viewer: Click the Start button. In the Search box, type Event Viewer, and then, in the list of results, double-click Event Viewer.

Do you see any error messages for the dates when things have gone wrong?

If that doesn't work....

I would try using MSConfig to see what programs/files are being activated on start up and then Google them to see if they are harmless or a threat. that should flush out any nasties.

Try removing all your usb devices before starting up.

I had a similar problem that I posted on here a while back and it turned out to be my usb external hard drive.

Only found out after buying a new PC and having the hard drive go down in the first couple of days
