Hi, I’ve had a new central heating system installed which has left me with an airing cupboard to refit as a wardrobe. The airing cupboard had a raised floor which I have stripped out to reveal a steel beam diagonally across the cupboard which I assume was there to support the cylinder and water tanks. My question is, can I now remove this and if so how? One end looks to be unsecured and just propped up on a wooden block but the other like it may be going into the exterior wall shared with a neighbour. I’m happy to pay to have it cut out if necessary but I need to get this done ASAP so I’d prefer not to wait to get a builder in to find it’s not doable. I’ve attached a picture to illustrate the problem. Thank you very much in anticipation of any advice you can offer.

which I assume was there to support the cylinder and water tanks.

Possibly but it is normally higher than that. Should be simple enough to remove, they are not usually very deep in the walls.

Thank you for your reply, the wood you can see in the picture was floor level and the hot water cylinder was stood on the floor. I wonder if ours was lower than usual as our cold water tanks were directly above the cylinder in the airing cupboard I assume because we don’t have a roof space. So do you think I just need someone with an angle grinder or do I need a bricklayer to remove and make good the hole?

Just loosen around the beam where it is built in to wall and it should come out easily enough, especially if only one end is built in. Making the hole good will just take some plaster/filler and doesn't necessarily need a bricklayer. A general handyman could probably do it all.
