I have an idea of using the space above my soon to be installed circulating cooker hood to sit a mircrowave oven on and would like to achieve desired strength by anchoring small wire ropes either side of it from wall to hood top at 45 degrees. Where would i get the wire, bolts, anchors etc?

A marine chandler would be as good a place as any. I'm not sure where in London you are but Arthur Beale on Shaftesbury avenue sell everything you need. You'd probably find better prices at one of the chandlers in Essex though (TCS chandlery maybe?)

You could also try a handrail/architectural metalwork type place. I know that FH brundle do what you need.

A lot of builders merchants will sell the wire rope and fittings but you'll end up with a fairly ugly assembly using bolt together components. A crimped cable with proper eyes/ferrules will look neater.
