My boiler has a problem in that the pilot light goes out. It will often stay on long enough to go through a few cycles over a couple of days then it goes out, often accompanied with a click noise from the boiler. On other days it needs to be relit before each programmed cycle begins.
The flame is good and strong and i doubt the thermocoupler is to blame as i thought if that was faulty the pilot light would not work at all.
I have had a couple of Corgi engineers look at it, scratch their head and say they will research it only to never here from them again. One suggested that the best place to start to try and pinpoint the problem might be to change the gas valve, but he offered very little confidence to me that the change of the valve would sort the problem. and i know the valve ain't the cheapest item to replace.
If anyone has any more definite ideas as to the cause i would really appreciate knowing them.

the click will be the electromagnet closing. and for what it takes id change the TC lead.

Im not familiar with your boiler is it fanned flue balanced flue.. etc?
Is the TC lead wired in series with the overheat stat?

Id recommend getting a corgi engineer to give it a full service including changing the TC and giving everything else a good cleaning.

This a a very simple boiler. I don't know why you have not found anyone to fix it though - look for someone that can repair boilers not just install.

The thermocouple is a cheap part - have it changed. The pilot flames are often yellow and partially blocked (causing the gas valve to drop out) on these boilers as they are reliable and rarely get serviced.

The other main problem with this boiler are missing wing nuts holding the outer casing on and a perished casing seal. These problems can cause pilot outage (since the case is no longer fully sealed) and constitutes a danger as there is a risk of combustion products leaking out. Casing seals are a low cost item.

Thanks alot for that info. I will get the TC changed and the boiler serviced as matter of course i think and thanks for the info on the seal i will look at that as well. Guru you are right about the boiler being simple, one of the engineers said it was simple and even my relatively untrained eye can see there isn't much to it. But still they seemed non-plused. Thanks again.
