Step by Step process for removing an external wall

Hi All,

Just a quick one for the more knowledgeable. Before I start I should like to point out that I am not doing the work myself, just being nosey and wanting to have an understanding before the builder takes over. I have had a look for an "order of process" on here but couldn't find one.

I want to open out the back of my house to have a small set of bi-fold doors (8ft) and I was just wondering what the process was for doing so?

For example, do the padstones need to be set in on mortar and left to go off first before the RSJ is lifted into place, or can the padstones and RSJ all be set in together whilst propped then left to go off.

Look forward to the responses.

BTW. I have contacted BC and had the RSJ's spec'd by a SE, just really more interested in knowing the process .

The steel beam can be positioned, (acro) propped and then the pads inserted beneath whilst the whole lot is held up with the acro props.

All propping can be removed the next day.

So in essence, he should:

* Knock out holes for acro's/strongboys
* Insert strongboys
* Knock down the portion of the wall to include leaving recesses for the padstones
* Insert the beam in place
* Acro it up into position so it is supporting the course of bricks above it.
* Lay the padstones in and wedge the gap between the padstones and beam with slate or steel?
* Fill in any gaps with mortar
* Leave to go off
* Remove all supports

and if the builder has done it like that I should have a gap to fill with bifolds?

thats correct mate , just how i would do it

If you have the wriggle room then it is a good idea to lay a bed of mortar on top of the beam before squeezing it into place.
