steps nightmare

i want ikea shelves which jut out from the wall styley shelves as steps going up too mezanine floor to a bed area . so can i buy them or do i have t o make them myself

not if they are actually ikea shelves, they are made from hardboard! dolphinboy, afaik, these have to be sunk into the brickwork for the true floating effect.

Well, I certainly wouldn't buy them from Ikea then walk up them.lol

I wouldn't have thought that any manufactred board would do it. Many years ago I worked on a penthouse flat with a roof room. They did a very similar thing. The wood was about 2" thick and well sunk into the wall.

I would also point out that you would need a good handrail. Furthermore if you sell the house in the future will it sell ok particularly if there are young kids?
